This novel chronicles the adventures of a mouse, Stuart Little, as he searches for his friend, a bird named Margalo. I have to admit I was unimpressed with this book. Stuart Little's adventures are very random and there does not seem to be any unifying thread. For example, at one point in the book, Stuart is given an invisible car, which he chooses not to make invisible. An entire chapter is dedicated to his acquisition and adventures with this vehicle, despite it having nothing to do with the plot. This novel is obviously a fantasy, but was the inclusion of an invisible car that isn't even invisible necessary to prove that the events are beyond belief? As I read this book, I got the strong impression that the author wrote it as a collection of short stories, which were later compiled into a novel. As a series of short stories, it is successful. As a novel, it disappoints.
