Our Valentine’s Day Party is this Friday, February 12, from 1:30–2:10 in the school cafeteria. Students will need to make their Valentine’s boxes or sacks at home this year due to our limited class time as well as the need to focus our instruction time on academics. Students may bring their Valentine’s boxes or bags to my room on Friday morning when they arrive at school.
Our JA BizTown field trip is approaching quickly! The kids have been working hard to complete their business group work these past few days and are getting excited.
Here are a few reminders for your child that day:
Thank you again to all of our parent volunteers. We look forward to a fun and educational experience!
This year, our 5th graders will be going on a special field trip to BizTown on Thursday, January 28. This is an experience where each child has a job to work in a business and learn skills that they will apply later on in life. They will be learning about performing a job, getting a paycheck, managing money, and being a team player. Children have already filled out an application for a job of their choice, and they will be interviewed tomorrow by an adult volunteer for their position. I encourage each child to dress up appropriately for their interview. They simply need to wear some nice clothes and come prepared to answer interview questions.
We have been working on interview skills in class and they are anxious to try them out tomorrow. You might want to discuss interview skills with your child tonight and help them get ready for tomorrow. We still could use a couple extra parent volunteers to conduct interviews. If you are available from 9:00 to 11:30 to help, please let us know as soon as possible.
For the past three years, fifth grade has gone on an end of the year field trip to the Rogers County Conservation District. It is a great way for students to learn about aquatic. Mr. Robert Gibbs at the reserve is a fabulous instructor. This trip requires us to travel to Claremore, one class at a time. In the past we have received grant funding from the Department of Environmental Quality to pay for the buses. We did not receive the funding this year. We have submitted a Donors Choose grant and hope to raise the money in this way. Here is a link to the grant. Please consider a donation, and please forward it on to grandparents and other friends and relatives who you think might want to support our field trip.
Enter the code LIFTOFF to double your donation this week!
Update: This project has been fully funded! We are very grateful to our generous donors and excited that we get to take this field trip again this year. The trips are scheduled for May 16, 17, 18 and 19. We have not yet determined which class will go on which day. More information will follow closer to time for our trips.
Principals from the 6th/7th Grade Center will be at Peters on Thursday, January 14, to provide information about the transition to sixth grade. They will meet with students in the afternoon and then return at 6:00 p.m. for a parent meeting. Enrollment cards will be sent home the same day.
Second quarter report cards will be sent home on Friday, January 8. Please sign and return the attached orange slip.
The fifth grade winter party will be on Thursday, December 17, from 1:30 to 2:15. Be sure to arrive early to give yourself enough time to check in at the office.
On Tuesday, December 15, fifth graders will travel to the high school PAC to learn about music/fine arts opportunities in sixth grade. Students will depart around 9:30 and return before lunch.
