I have created a new page called Book Reviews, where I will post brief reviews of books that I have read or am currently reading. I also plan to include links to additional resources and suggestions for further reading.
This is a story from Channel 6 about Safety Patrol at Briarglen in 1982. Thought some of you might find it interesting!
From Union's Facebook page. Photos from around the district. Look for several pictures from Peters.
Tuesday, May 22, is the last day of school. Students will bring home report cards, OCCT Writing Test reports, and a folder with student writing from throughout the year.
Our class recently constructed geodesic domes out of newspaper and masking tape. Several students have also begun to make their own domes out of copy paper and tape. Below are resources for building your own dome.
Newspaper Geodesic Dome - These are instructions for the newspaper dome we built as a class. The same procedure can be followed to make a dome of different dimensions (see calculator below).
Geodesic Dome Calculator - Use this tool to determine the length and number of pieces you will need for any size dome (the 2v dome is what we did in class). I recommend a 20 cm radius dome, which is about the size of a beach ball, and works well with half-sheets of copy paper. For a dome this size, you will need 35 struts that measure 12.36 cm each and 30 struts that measure 10.93 cm each (try to measure as closely as possible).
Sunday, May 20
1:00 Assembly set-up in the gym. PTA needs as many adults as possible to help set up. If you have an air compressor or an air tank to blow up balloons, please bring it with you. Please do not bring children.
Monday, May 21
8:10-8:40 5th Grade Breakfast
8:40-10:00 5th Grade Awards Assembly. Students are encouraged to dress up for the assembly; they will have time to change clothes before going to the park. Doors open for all parents and families at 8:40 a.m. Although we are celebrating our 5th graders graduating from elementary school, this is an assembly for those 5th graders who are receiving awards.
10:00-2:00 5th Grade Picnic. Have your child wear their Class T-Shirt and bring a beach towel and sun block. Lunch, snow cones and drinks will be provided for the 5th graders. Please bring food and drinks for yourself and any other family members. If your 5th grade child has a special diet, please bring their lunch. Feel free to bring picnic blankets and chairs for your comfort. You may also set up canopies or umbrellas.
2:00-2:30 Return to Peters and dismissal
