Class Policies
Planners
Students are given a planner to keep track of daily activities and assignments. It is the student's responsibility to fill out the planner and show it to parents each day. Teachers typically do not check planners unless requested by parents.
Homework
Homework is used primarily for reinforcement, make-up, and/or completion of unfinished classroom assignments. Students should strive to work hard at school; therefore, less homework will be necessary and students will have more time for extracurricular activities and family involvement. Homework is the student’s responsibility. Students may share this work with their parents and seek their help when needed. If students cannot do the assigned work, they should check with the teacher the following day. Students should have a definite time and place for doing schoolwork at home. Turn off the TV at this time and the work will go more quickly. All assignments should be carefully and neatly prepared and turned in on schedule.
Any unfinished work in class will be homework and due the following day unless otherwise specified. Students are required to show all work on assignments. Our 2017-2018 fifth grade policy on late and incomplete work is as follows:
Your child will be required to finish all work, no matter how late it is. However, assignments that are more than one week late will not receive credit. Please note that when assignments are graded only for completion, late assignments may not be accepted. See your child's teacher for specific grading policies.
Make-Up Work When Absent
Students will have as many days as absent plus one day to complete make-up work. It is the student's responsibility to ask for make-up work when absent.
Pride Club (Below is our past policy. Pride Club is not in place yet this year.)
Peters Pride Club rewards students for making positive behavior choices. Students who consistently show that they are respectful, responsible, and safe will earn a Peters Pride Card. Every week, students will be evaluated to see if they have earned Pride for the following week based on their behavior.
Students will lose their Pride Card if they are not respectful, responsible, or safe during the week. Some common guidelines for this would be the following:
Students who have their Pride Card will have certain privileges at our school. One of the major benefits of having a card will be outside lunch opportunities. Other rewards for students may include a surprise extra recess, eating lunch with their teacher, and other unannounced surprises for students who have their card.
